Combat In World War I
The combat that took place in WWI was extremely different from any other war that took place in history. This war introduced many new tactics, weapons, and technology to what war would become. Let me tell you some of the interest facts about this war.
  • WWI was the war that introduced the tank thanks to the british. The british made the tank to get past the barbed wire in front of enemy trenches
  • WWI was he first war to use aircraft. Zeppelins were like blimps used to drop bombs on warships. Originally aircraft had been used to spy on enemies.
  • Trenches were built from the English Channel all the way to the Swiss borders.
  • The land in between trenches was called no-mans-land.
  • The machine gun was used to stop the enemy from overrunning their trenches.
  • People were killed in trenches with artillery, bayonets, grenades, axes, pistols, rocks, and even fists.
  • The first poison gas was introduced in the combat of WWI, causing both sides to develop gas masks.
  • WWI pilots expected life span in WWI combat was about two weeks.
WWI was extremely brutal and it paved a path for new technology, tactics, and weapons. The tank didn't play a big part in WWI, but by WWII tanks had replaced cavalry in modern war. The dogfighting in WWI led to engineering a better aircraft for war. WWI was a significant war in many aspects and led the way for wars to come.
